A more sedate Kupang

The scene above is a vast change from just a few days ago when there were some 70 boats anchored out there - that's Calypso in the middle waiting for her outboard to be repaired.  We thought that we'd have it back a couple of days ago but when the mechanic went to the workshop with the required press to change the bearings, he discovered that the only chap who knows how to use it went off on holiday after Ramadan.  Now we wait some more.

It took several days to get over that nasty stomach issue but we're back almost on form.  Felt like the proverbial weak kitten there for a while there.

In the meantime, Paul worked solidly on our little 3.3hp Johnson which hasn't seen any use for over a year now.  He got it working pretty quickly but discovered that it wasn't getting any coolant water so he stripped it down completely, cleaned and greased everything and now we have a little putt-putt to keep us going until our big Yamaha is back on the scene.  We are rather dependent on a motor as we only have an inflatable dinghy which we can't even row - the oar-locks broke off while we were coming up the Queensland coast.

AND, we saw our very first dugongs in the bay last night!  What a thrill as I'd been hoping to see them up the Australian coast where they're purported to be quite prolific, but nothing.  There were two of them lolling in the waters around our boat.  At first I just assumed they were slow moving dolphins until I realised that there were no dorsal fins and then I noticed the completely different shaped heads.  Unfortunately, they are rather elusive so I couldn't grab a photo.  Chalk up another first in my life!

Then, we woke this morning to find Troutbridge anchored right beside again.  ???? He left two days ago so shouldn't be here.  We got hold of him on the radio and apparently he's having gear box trouble so turned around to come back.  Paul will have a look at it later today.  Hope it's nothing too serious.

This photo shows the waterfront in front of the bar/restaurant where, last week, it was crowded with people, stalls, flags, souvenir sellers, tour guides, etc. etc.  Now, just nice and peaceful.

That was such another good read. What a tropper Paul is - Mr. Fix-it! How nice your friend [Troutbrige] found you guys and how comforting that must have been for him having his troubles too. Be well - great to hear you mended.
