St Vincent

Our next stop was Young Island Cut on the island of St Vincent. For weeks now, we haven’t really had the best weather, always a bit rough and windy and here was no different. However, the anchorage was quite protected so we spent a week taking in a couple of trips into the main town of Kingstown which proved to a typical Caribbean town with the markets and bustling streets and sidwalks. The nearby local hotel served some incredibly good rum punches so evening saw us watching the sun go down with these delicious drinks in our hands meeting the locals and fellow cruisers.

Off we went again, this time moving northwards along the western coast of the island to our next stop of Wallilabou. Wallilabou was made famous as it was the main setting for the first ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie and the village remains just like the movie set. This is a gorgeous little bay – not much there but we loved the solitude and it offered quite good snorkelling so we stayed on for another week.

We managed a couple of short hikes up to the nearby waterfall and stopped at some of the ‘locals’ for ice cold drinks. We were rather saddened to leave this spot as we were really quite smitten.

Bequia

Upon leaving Mayreau and the Tobago Cays, we decided not to stop off at the famous island of Mustique as we really aren’t quite in the same league as Mick Jagger or the late Princess Margaret & Co. We did, however, spend a night at Canouan but it was terribly rolly and is really only geared to those chartering yachts through the Moorings company hence the short stay.

So we headed over to Bequia to arrive just in time for New Year’s Eve, and guess who we bumped into? Yup, our party animals, the crew of ‘Jus³ Do It’! What better people to see in the new year.

Bequia is very popular with the cruising fraternity who spend year after year travelling up and down the Eastern Caribbean island chains. It’s very nice but very expensive and we felt Robyn’s time was running short and there was still so much to see. All in all, we stayed a week before heading out to the main island of the Grenadines, St. Vincent.
